KS1

Foxes have settled into KS1 really well this half term and they have loved our ‘Castles and Fairytales’ topic.
In English, we have learnt all about Castles and written our own Non-Chronological reports in English. Also, we have explored the book ‘Prince Cinders’ and innovated the story by adapting the story and adding in our own characters. In Maths, we have been working on our place value through a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach.

In R.E, we have been looking at repentance through Judaism. We explored the question ‘Why do Jewish families talk about repentance at New Year?’. We discussed the idea of saying sorry, changing and forgiveness. We learnt about Rosh Hashanah and repentance and forgiveness in the story of Jonah. We are looking forward to extending our learning further in our Jewish workshop at school in Autumn 2nd.

In Science, we have been working hard on our topic ‘Animals including Humans’. We learnt our basic body parts and our senses. We then learnt to identify and name a variety of common animals and sort them into the animal groups.

In History, we learnt about how the Normans built Castles and the features of a Castle. Our favourite part was going on a trip to Colchester Castle! At Colchester Castle, we enjoyed taking part in workshops and becoming Historians! We learnt what it was like to live in a Castle and what jobs people had.

In D&T, we created our very own moving monsters and explored how they worked. We then adapted our product to make it even better.

We are looking forward to our ‘Fire, Fire!’ topic (Autumn 2nd).
