In Red Deer Class, we are embarking on an exciting term of learning with a strong focus on Ancient Greece. Our class text, Who Let the Gods Out? by Maz Evans, provides a wonderful starting point for exploring themes of mythology, adventure and humour, while also supporting the children’s love of reading and discussion.
In history, we will be studying Ancient Greece, with particular emphasis on life in Athens. The children will learn about democracy, daily life, education, and the differences between Athens and Sparta, developing both their historical knowledge and their ability to compare and contrast societies.
Our English work this term will link closely to our history topic. The children will first focus on persuasive writing, producing letters of application to ‘join’ the Athenian army. Later in the term, we will move on to study myths and legends, drawing inspiration from well-known Greek stories to develop our narrative writing skills. Through this work, pupils will deepen their understanding of storytelling, characterisation and descriptive language.
We are looking forward to a term filled with curiosity, creativity and challenge, and to seeing the children make strong links across the curriculum as they immerse themselves in the fascinating world of Ancient Greece.
