2017/2018

Fox Class is looking forward to learning all about Castles. We will be reading and writing stories based on castles, princesses and knights in our literacy lessons. In our topic lessons we will be looking at why and how castles were built. We will even be making our own castle and drawbridge! We will be linking our maths work to castles where appropriate whilst consolidating our knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Fox Class have had a fantastic half-term. We have loved learning about Enchanted Forests. We read some fantastic stories in our literacy lessons - ‘Hansel and Gretel’ was one of our favourites. We wrote our own version of the story. We have also used the local area as an inspiration for our writing. In our afternoon lessons we explored our local area and created a map using a key of it. We also made broomsticks in the environmental garden using natural materials after reading ‘Room on the Broom’. Our trip to High Lodge was a highlight of the half-term for us. We completed the Gruffalo Spotter trail using IPads.

In our R.E lessons we looked at ‘Leaders and Teachers’ from a Jewish perspective. We looked at the Torah and we made our own class giant Torah scroll. We retold the story of Moses through pictures and writing.

We are looking forward to our new topic ‘Oceans and Seas’ which we will be starting after half-term. We will be looking at some non-fiction texts about creatures that live in the sea and the Galapagos Islands. In the afternoon sessions we will be looking at the Galapagos Islands in more detail and finding out how we can help protect our oceans.
